Relevent Copy Works for Search Engine Optimization

Optimizing your website to generate traffic from search engines has always been about providing relevant content for your users about a specific topic. As the algorithms used by search engines continually become more complex and better at determining relevance, the quality of your content will become increasingly important. This includes using correct sentence structure and spelling.More...

A sloppily-written article may not rank as well as a well-written article, all other things being equal. Additionally, if an article is amateurish and/or difficult to follow, people may not stick around to read it. If someone clicks on your link after performing a search at Google, spends just a few seconds on your site and then hits the back-button on their browser to make another selection, Google takes note of that. Eventually your site may no longer rank for that keyword because Google users have effectively told Google your webpage is not meeting the needs of their search query. Of course other issues can also impact how much time people spend on your site, including overall design, navigation, and even page load times - all things to keep in mind when designing or redesigning your site.

Your goal when adding content should be to draw people deeper into your site. Ways you can accomplish this may consist of simply linking to other areas of interest within your site from the article itself. This interlinking of related pages on your site also helps a search engine spider figure out the theme of your content and website. As much as possible, you should take care to not interlink non-related content.

Another trend in SEO to be aware of is the importance of "growing" your site over time. Never let your site become stagnant. Constantly add new content to the site - be it daily, weekly, or monthly - and request new inbound links to your site with regularity. If you never update your website and your content is such that it becomes irrelevant as time passes, some people may remove their links to your site. If fewer and fewer people link to your site with each passing crawl of the search engine's spider, your rankings will begin to decrease. On the other hand, if your site is growing in size and gaining new inbound links while retaining old links, your rankings will most likely improve.

Common sense applied at every level of your website will keep your visitors coming back for more, and the payoff will be improved rankings in the organic search engines.
