Using Technorati to Increase Blog Traffic

Title Tags and Keyword Content

A basic rule to all website promotions is to use relevent keywords in the title and content of your pages. For a blog:

• Before you write your blog entry, think through some of the keywords that people might be searching for related to your content. Write them down, use them in your blog title and repeat them in the content of your blog.
• When you are reading your blog posting, make sure it's configured to display your blog title in:
  • Title tag of the webpage. Note, this will not be visable on your webpage, except in the very top of your Internet browser. (The page you are now looking at says "5Q Communications, Inc -- Using Technorati to Increase Blog Traffic").

  • Heading tag in the content of your blogpage. Make sure your blog is configured to place your blog title in h1 tags.

Using Technorati

Technorati tracks blog postings by asking that people add a short snippet of code to their blog ("Claim your Blog" is what they call it). When you claim your blog, you write a short description about your blog and also declare which keywords you want Technorati to track. Like google, the more links that you have pointing to your blog from other blogs, the better your ranking will be (e.g. http://www.technorati.com/pop/blogs/ ). Here are the basics:

1. Create an account on Techorati.
2. Claim your blog. Once your account is created, use Technorati's account page to claim your blog.
3. Add tags that are specific to your blog. Be creative. Add tags that people are likely to be searching for that also apply to the things that you are writing about. Here are their current top 100 tags.
4. Actively recruit links from other blogs to your blog by asking other bloggers to link to you.
